New war machine – heavy flamethrower systems TOS-1A in action

The Ministry of Defense of Russia published footage of the destruction of targets of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the help of heavy flamethrower systems TOS-1A “Solntsepek” of the Central Military District

What is TOS-1A?

The TOS-1A is a Russian-made heavy flamethrower system that was developed in the early 2000s. It is designed to provide fire support to ground forces and is used to engage enemy troops, fortified positions, and structures.

The TOS-1A is mounted on the chassis of a T-72 main battle tank and can carry up to 30 rockets, each containing a thermobaric or incendiary warhead. The rockets have a range of up to 6 km and can cover an area of up to 40,000 square meters, making the TOS-1A an effective weapon against large groups of enemy personnel.

How is it working?

The thermobaric warheads used by the TOS-1A are particularly devastating, as they release a cloud of explosive gases that are ignited by a second charge, creating a powerful blast wave that can cause significant damage to structures and personnel. This makes the TOS-1A a potent weapon in urban warfare and other scenarios where enemy forces are dug in or fortified.
The TOS-1A has been used by the Russian military in several conflicts, including the Second Chechen War, the Syrian Civil War, and now Ukraine. While its effectiveness has been questioned by some military experts, the TOS-1A remains a formidable weapon in the Russian military arsenal.
